1967 Tugboat
Texaco Fire Chief
1st in the Tugboat series (2000) The mighty tugboat Texaco Fire Chief was built in 1967 to serve Texaco's operations in New York Harbor. The tug worked out of the company's Bayonne, New Jersey terminal helping to dock large oil tankers and towing barges full of refined oil and gasoline. Built by Jackson Shipyard in Oyster Bay, Long Island, the tug measured 100 feet in length by 26 feet beam and was powered by a diesel engine rated at 1600 brake horsepower. The Texaco Fire Chief was built to highest specifications of the American Bureau of Shipping and was equipped with state of the art navigation devises for the time, including radar and radiotelephone.
